Small changes in your everyday life might help reduce the risk of getting cancer. Below are some tips for it. Taking out just a few minutes to read them might help you in avoiding this disease.

1. Don't use tobacco

Stop all types of tobacco use. Even if you do not smoke, avoid being exposed to secondhand smoke. Similarly, the habit of chewing tobacco should be taken care of.

2. Eat a variety of healthy foods

Eating a variety of foods might help in reducing the risk of getting cancer.

It is recommended that you:

* Limit high-fat diets.

* Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all.

* Eat more foods from plant-based sources.

* Eat whole grains and beans.

* Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet.

3. Stay active and maintain a healthy weight

Maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly is must for a healthy life. Being overweight increases your risk of cancer. Take out at least 30 minutes for physical activities 2-3 times per week. Once that goal is achieved, try adding more workouts to this routine. It is believed to reduce the risks of certain cancers.

4. Protect yourself from the sun

Skin cancer is the most common kind of cancer - and yet it is the most preventable one. Repeated exposure to X-rays and contact with certain chemicals do play a role, but sun exposure is as yet the most common cause of skin cancer.

Skin cancers usually occur on the exposed parts of the body - face, hands, forearms and ears. Though almost all the skin cancers are treatable if detected early, but still prevention is better than cure.

* Avoid being outside during the peak radiation hours - between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

* If you have to go outside, stay in the shade.

* Cover exposed areas of the body.

* Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

* Wear a broad-brimmed hat that covers the head and ears.

* Use a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15.

* Don't use indoor tanning beds or sunlamps. They tend to damage the skin.

5.Get screened

Keep a check for changes in your body - it might help to detect cancer early, increasing your chances of successful treatment. If you notice any changes, see your doctor.

Regular screening and self-examination may not prevent cancer, but it increases the chance of discovering cancer early - when treatment is more likely to be successful.
